MTN Ghana Restores GHC399 Bundle with 214GB, Effective July 1, 2025

In a significant move to enhance data accessibility for Ghanaians, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, announced that MTN Ghana will reinstate its popular GHC399 data bundle, offering 214 gigabytes of data starting July 1, 2025.

This marks a substantial increase from the current GHC350 bundle, which provides 92.88GB, addressing consumer demands for more value at competitive prices.

The announcement was made during a press conference in Accra, where the Minister outlined sweeping reforms aimed at improving internet affordability and service quality across Ghana’s telecommunications sector.

MTN Ghana, designated as a Significant Market Power (SMP) operator, will implement a 15% increase in data volume across all its bundles.

The restoration of the GHC399 bundle to 214GB is a highlight of these changes, reversing a previous reduction in data volume that had sparked public concern.

“This is a pro-consumer reform aimed at increasing digital access for all,” said Hon. Samuel Nartey George, emphasizing the government’s commitment to digital inclusion.

“The reinstatement of the GHC399 bundle to offer 214GB reflects months of productive dialogue with telecom operators to deliver better value to Ghanaians.”

The Minister noted that the decision follows extensive consultations with the chief executives of MTN Ghana, Telecel Ghana, and AT Ghana.

These engagements focused on three key pillars: value, pricing, and quality.

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has been tasked with enforcing the new bundle structures, with strict sanctions promised for non-compliance.

In addition to MTN’s adjustments, Telecel Ghana and AT Ghana will increase their data bundles by 10%.

For instance, Telecel’s GHC400 bundle will rise from 90GB to 250GB, while AT’s GHC400 bundle will increase from 195GB to 236GB, effective July 1, 2025.

These changes aim to provide consumers with more data without raising prices, despite a 39% tax burden on data services that continues to challenge affordability.

MTN will now offer 399ghs for 214GB starting from July.”

The Minister also highlighted plans to improve service quality, with telecom operators pledging a collective $150 million investment in network infrastructure by the end of 2025.

This includes spectrum acquisitions and new equipment to enhance connectivity.

The NCA will conduct a quality-of-service assessment from October to December 2025 to ensure compliance, with potential fines and consumer compensation for operators that fall short.

Addressing criticisms, Hon. George acknowledged the telecom sector’s challenges, including past mismanagement and high taxes.

He assured Ghanaians that his ministry is working with the Ministry of Finance to explore reducing the 39% tax on data services, which could further lower costs in the future.

The restoration of MTN’s GHC399 bundle and the broader data bundle increases signal a step toward greater digital inclusion in Ghana.

As the July 1 implementation date approaches, consumers and industry stakeholders alike will be watching closely to see how these changes impact affordability and service quality.
