Brighton Rally to Beat 10-Man Chelsea 3‑1

In a gripping Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, Brighton & Hove Albion came from behind to beat Chelsea 3‑1, capitalizing on a red card and showing great resilience.

Chelsea started strongly, and took the lead in the 24th minute through a header from Enzo Fernández.

But the game changed early in the second half: in the 53rd minute, Trevoh Chalobah was sent off after a VAR review determined he denied Brighton’s Diego Gomez a clear goal‑scoring opportunity.

At that moment, Chelsea’s control began to slip.

After weathering pressure for much of the second half with 10 men, Chelsea finally surrendered their lead.

Substitute Danny Welbeck scored a header to equalize in the 77th minute.

Then, in stoppage time, Maxim De Cuyper put Brighton ahead with another header. Welbeck sealed the win with his second goal late on.

Key takeaways

  • Brighton showed great character and tactical discipline, particularly after the red card, using their substitutes well.
  •  Chelsea’s inability to manage the game with one player less was costly. Despite a promising start, the red card disrupted their flow and defensive stability.
  • The defeat further compounds pressure on Chelsea, who now face difficult questions over discipline and game management late in matches.

In the end, Brighton earned the moral victory: turning what looked like a difficult match into a statement win on the road.
