Ghana GoldBod GH¢5 Million Donation to NAIMOS
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has donated GH¢5 million and five Toyota Hilux pickups to the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) to strengthen efforts against illegal mining, known locally as ‘galamsey.’
The donation, presented on September 10, 2025, in Accra, aims to enhance NAIMOS’s operational capacity to combat the environmental and economic damage caused by illegal mining activities across Ghana.
GoldBod’s contribution includes financial support to fund logistics, training, and equipment for NAIMOS’s operations, while the vehicles will improve mobility for field officers tackling galamsey in remote mining areas.
The gesture underscores GoldBod’s commitment to promoting responsible mining and protecting Ghana’s natural resources, particularly its gold reserves, which are critical to the nation’s economy.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, GoldBod’s CEO, Kwame Asante, emphasized the importance of curbing galamsey to safeguard water bodies, farmlands, and forests.
“Illegal mining threatens our environment and economy. This donation is our pledge to support NAIMOS in restoring order to the mining sector,” he stated.
NAIMOS Director, Ama Boateng, expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the funds and vehicles would significantly boost their operations.
“This donation will enhance our ability to monitor and enforce regulations in mining communities,” she said.
Boateng also called for stronger collaboration between stakeholders to eradicate galamsey.
The donation comes amid growing public concern over galamsey’s devastating impact, including water pollution and deforestation.
The government has intensified efforts to clamp down on illegal mining, with NAIMOS leading operations to arrest perpetrators and seize equipment.
GoldBod’s support is expected to accelerate these efforts, fostering sustainable mining practices in Ghana.
