Mount and Sesko Lead Man United to 2-0 Win Over Sunderland

Manchester United secured a 2-0 victory over Sunderland in their Premier League clash at Old Trafford on October 4, 2025.

The win marked Sunderland's first visit to the Theatre of Dreams in nearly a decade and provided crucial points for Manchester United amid some pressure on their head coach, Ruben Amorim.

The match began with a solemn minute's silence in memory of those affected by the recent Heaton Park Synagogue attack.

Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens made his United debut, keeping a clean sheet.

The hosts took an early lead with Mason Mount scoring a tidy finish in the ninth minute.

Benjamin Sesko, the new signing, doubled the lead on the half-hour mark, scoring his second goal in as many games for United.

Sunderland started the game with high energy, supported by their vocal traveling fans.

They created some promising chances early on, but the defense and goalkeeper Lammens held firm.

Sunderland did receive a penalty decision near halftime, initially awarded after Sesko appeared to foul, but VAR intervention overturned it, ruling it was a head contact from Sunderland's Trai Hume instead.

In the second half, Sunderland had another penalty claim dismissed for simulation, and despite some attacking efforts, they could not break down Manchester United's defense.

Both goalkeepers, Lammens for United and Robin Roefs for Sunderland, made several important saves.

The 2-0 scoreline held, sealing a confident home win for Manchester United.

This result eased the spotlight on Ruben Amorim and boosted Manchester United's Premier League campaign, showcasing an effective attacking display balanced with a solid defensive performance
