Republicans Debate Medicaid Cuts

On May 14, 2025, the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Republican members held a marathon markup session to discuss proposed Medicaid cuts.

Estimates suggest these cuts could result in 8.6 million Americans losing health insurance by 2034.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear warned that such measures could have significant political consequences for the Republican Party.

The debate highlights tensions over health care policy as the U.S. grapples with rising costs and access disparities.
