US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has proposed a direct meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine. 

This follows stalled negotiations, with Ukraine insisting on a ceasefire before talks, while Russia rejects preconditions. 

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has challenged Putin to meet in Turkey, but Moscow remains focused on addressing "root causes" of the conflict. 

The proposal signals intensified US diplomatic efforts amid ongoing fighting.
