Mahama Appoints Ex-Bawumia Aide as Senior Presidential Staffer

 President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Rosemond Obeng, a former aide to ex-Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as a Senior Presidential Staffer, sparking a mix of reactions among supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

 The appointment, confirmed by MyNewsGh.com, has drawn significant attention due to Obeng’s political history and her recent shift in allegiance.

Rosemond Obeng, popularly known as “People’s Mother,” previously served as a National TESCON coordinator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and worked closely with Dr. Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 election.

 Days before the December 2024 election, Obeng resigned from the NPP and joined the NDC, citing her belief that Bawumia lacked the courage and leadership qualities to lead Ghana effectively.

 In a notable appearance on GHOne TV’s State of Affairs program in late 2024, she publicly criticized her former boss, stating, “We require crucial leadership, and I am aware that my former boss is unable to provide it.”

Obeng’s appointment was confirmed in a video where she announced her new role in Mahama’s government during a school event.

 She emphasized the administration’s commitment to youth development, stating, “This government, under the leadership of HE John Dramani Mahama, is committed to the development of our young people.

 They are our hope.”

 However, reports from credible sources at the Flagstaff House have since emerged, casting doubt on the initial claims, suggesting that Obeng may not have been appointed as a Senior Presidential Staffer, leading to confusion within political circles.

The appointment has stirred frustration among some NDC grassroots supporters, who view it as a betrayal of loyal party members who campaigned tirelessly for Mahama’s victory in the 2024 election.

 Conversely, some see the move as a strategic effort by Mahama to foster political inclusivity, given Obeng’s experience and her public alignment with the NDC’s vision.
