FBI Raid John Bolton's House |
The former national security adviser under President Donald Trump is under investigation for allegedly mishandling classified information, a probe tied to his 2020 memoir, The Room Where It Happened.
The book, which criticized Trump’s foreign policy, had previously sparked legal battles over its content, though no charges were filed under the Biden administration.
The searches, prompted by intelligence from CIA Director John Ratcliffe, have raised concerns of political retribution, given Bolton’s vocal criticism of Trump, particularly on recent Russia-Ukraine talks.
FBI Director Kash Patel’s X post, “NO ONE is above the law,” and similar remarks from Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Director Dan Bongino, fueled speculation of bias, with critics like Rep.
Raja Krishnamoorthi calling it a distraction from other news, such as Epstein-related document releases.
Trump denied prior knowledge of the raids, calling Bolton a “lowlife” and “unpatriotic,” while Vice President JD Vance insisted the investigation was law-driven, not political.
Former FBI officials, however, criticized the public nature of the operation as unprecedented, suggesting it undermines investigative integrity.
Bolton, who was not detained, has not commented publicly.
The searches, involving agents carrying boxes and a desktop CPU, mark a high-profile escalation in Trump’s ongoing feud with critics, raising questions about the Justice Department’s impartiality.
