Ghana-China Electric Vehicle Assembly Plant Partnership |
On August 20, 2025, PKA Export and Import, a Ghanaian company, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Chinese companies Polyrocks and Sinovcle to establish an EV assembly plant in Accra.
This initiative, announced at the 2025 Ghana Automotive Forum, aligns with Ghana’s automobile development policy and aims to transform the region’s automotive industry.
The plant’s construction is slated to begin before the end of 2025, with an initial production target of 5,000 vehicles annually, scaling to 20,000 units in subsequent years.
The project is expected to create over 1,000 direct jobs and 2,000 indirect jobs, while introducing advanced EV technologies, including solar- and hydrogen-powered vehicles.
Training programs for technicians and mechanics, alongside charging stations and service centers, will further support Ghana’s green mobility ecosystem.
Ghana’s selection as the site for this venture was driven by its stable investment climate and fast-growing economy, as highlighted by PKA’s Executive Chairman, Prince Asare, and Sinovcle’s Chairman, Mr. Zou Pinchun.
Additionally, Ghana’s rich lithium deposits provide a strategic advantage for EV battery production, enhancing the country’s role in the global clean energy transition.
This partnership marks a significant step in China-Africa green industrial cooperation, positioning Ghana as a leader in sustainable automotive manufacturing and boosting economic diversification through exports.
