Rabito & CDA Boost BC Awareness for Female Journalists

In a collaborative effort to combat breast cancer, Rabito Clinic and Communication for Development and Advocacy Consult (CDA Consult) have launched a targeted initiative aimed at female journalists in Ghana.

This program, set to run from October 2nd to 30th, 2025, coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month and seeks to provide free screenings and education directly at selected media houses.

The theme, “Female journalist, your story matters.

Don’t let breast cancer silence you,” underscores the vital role of journalists while addressing their unique health vulnerabilities.

Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women worldwide, with approximately 2.3 million new cases diagnosed annually, according to the World Health Organization.

In Ghana, an alarming 67.7% of women aged 25-49 have unmet needs for screening, highlighting the urgency of such interventions.

Female journalists, often burdened by long hours, high stress, and irregular schedules, are particularly at risk of neglecting their health.

The partnership brings expert health professionals from Rabito Clinic—Ghana’s premier dermatology center with over 50 years of experience—to workplaces, removing barriers to access.

Francis Ameyibor, Executive Director of CDA Consult, emphasized the need for journalists to prioritize self-care: “As a female journalist, don’t only provide news coverage; actively participate in health initiatives.”

Naa Professor Edmund N. Delle Chiir VIII, Founder and President of Rabito Clinic, added that early detection through regular screening, such as mammography for women aged 50-69 or earlier for those with risk factors, can significantly improve outcomes.

He advocated for lifestyle changes like balanced diets, exercise, and limited alcohol intake to reduce risks.

This initiative not only offers immediate screenings but also fosters long-term awareness, encouraging sustainable health practices in the media sector.

By empowering female journalists, Rabito Clinic and CDA Consult aim to ensure that these storytellers continue to amplify voices without being silenced by preventable diseases.

Eligible professionals are urged to participate at participating institutions for a healthier future.
