Godfred Dame: Ex-Ghana AG in Spotlight

Godfred Yeboah Dame, born on June 5, 1979, is a prominent Ghanaian lawyer and politician affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He served as Ghana's 25th Attorney General and Minister for Justice, a role he held until recently. Prior to this, he was the Deputy Attorney General, contributing to various legal and political matters in the country.

Dame is known for his legal expertise and is married to Dr. Joycelyn Akosua Assimeng Dame.

Career Highlights

Dame's career in law and politics has been marked by significant roles in Ghana's justice system.

He rose to prominence as a key figure in the NPP government, handling high-profile cases and advising on legal policies.

His tenure as Attorney General involved overseeing prosecutions, including the notable ambulance procurement trial involving former Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and businessman Richard Jakpa.

Why He's Trending Now

On October 6, 2025, Dame reported to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service following an invitation related to a petition filed by Richard Jakpa.

Jakpa, who was an accused in the discontinued ambulance case and now serves as Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, alleges that Dame fabricated evidence and engaged in misconduct during the trial.

Dame arrived at the CID headquarters accompanied by a large legal team, including former deputies Alfred Tuah Yeboah and Diana Asonaba Dapaah.

Tensions escalated when supporters clashed with police officers outside the premises after being asked to disperse.

After providing his statement, Dame was granted self-recognizance bail.

Dame and his legal team have dismissed the allegations as "baseless" and politically motivated.

Former Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah Yeboah described the probe as a "political witch-hunt" born out of personal dislike, expressing confidence that Dame would be vindicated.

Lawyer Frank Davies echoed these sentiments, calling the petition a product of Jakpa's "fertile imagination."

Current Status

As of October 7, 2025, the investigation is ongoing, with Dame cooperating with authorities.

This development has sparked widespread discussion on social media and in Ghanaian news outlets, highlighting tensions in the country's political and legal landscape following recent changes in government.

Dame maintains his innocence, and supporters believe the truth will prevail.
