Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, is mourning the loss of her younger sister, Ruth Otabor, who passed away on August 31, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m.
The tragic news was confirmed through a statement issued by Eko Solicitors & Advocates on behalf of the Otabor family, shared via Phyna’s Instagram.
The family expressed their deep grief, requesting privacy during this difficult time and noting that funeral arrangements would be announced later.
Ruth, a recent graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, was critically injured on August 13, 2025, when a Dangote Group truck struck her near the institution in Edo State, just six days after her graduation.
The accident resulted in the amputation of one leg and severe injuries to her head, hands, and remaining leg.
Despite medical efforts, Ruth succumbed to complications.
Phyna had been vocal in seeking justice, accusing the Dangote Group of negligence and alleging attempts to obscure the incident.
The company responded, pledging support for Ruth’s medical care and compensation, and later expressed condolences, stating they had arranged for her to receive treatment in India before her passing.
The tragedy has sparked widespread outrage online, with the hashtag #JusticeForRuth trending as fans and supporters demand accountability and improved road safety.
The Federal Road Safety Corps also mourned Ruth’s death, promising stricter safety measures.
