Wolverhampton Wanderers have firmly rejected a £55 million bid from Newcastle United for their star striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, underscoring their determination to retain the Norwegian international.
The offer, which followed a previously rebuffed £50 million approach, came on Tuesday evening, coinciding with Strand Larsen’s brace in Wolves’ 3-2 Carabao Cup victory over West Ham.
Despite Newcastle’s persistence, Wolves maintain that the 25-year-old is not for sale, citing his critical role in their Premier League survival strategy and the limited time remaining in the transfer window to secure a suitable replacement.
Strand Larsen, who joined Wolves permanently from Celta Vigo for £23 million in July after a successful loan spell, has proven his worth with 14 Premier League goals last season and two in the recent cup tie.
His manager, Vitor Pereira, praised his commitment and character, noting, “He’s a very important player for us.
He’s a fighter.”
While Pereira acknowledged that “every player has a price,” Wolves’ stance remains resolute, with sources suggesting a bid exceeding £75 million might be needed to even prompt consideration.
Newcastle’s pursuit stems from their urgent need for a striker, with Alexander Isak absent due to transfer speculation and Callum Wilson having departed.
The Magpies, who also had bids for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa rejected, face a race against time before the transfer deadline.
Despite Strand Larsen’s reported interest in a move to St. James’ Park, he remains professional, not pushing for a transfer.
